Extension Maintenance_
_Welcome to the world of extensions - They might require a new routine but with our help we know you’ve got this, we believe in you_
EXTENSION AFTERCARE:
NO PROTEIN - No products with protein ingredients as they will dramatically fray your extensions and lead to breakage :(
INVEST IN HOMECARE: Use Salon friendly products to maintain the hairs strength, integrity, tone and longevity. We stock affordable brands in salon and understand the initial investment can be hard in this economy but we assure you that your hair will love you for it and you’ll use less than store bought products which balances the cost long term.
STICK TO THE ROUTINE: PAH recommends a ‘retape’ or ‘rebead’ appointment every 5-6 weeks.
This depends on the hair type and how healthy the scalp is so check in with your stylist to find out what frequency will suit your hair type.
ICE BATHS: We’re sorry in advance but we promise it works!
Use cold water when washing your hair, limit humidity by using a shower cap when having hot showers and only get your hair wet when it’s wash day.
PLAYING MERMAIDS ONLY AS A TREAT: Don’t get your new hair wet when swimming and help us by bringing back the swimming cap for emergencies :)
PUT A BONNET ON IT - Wear a silk/satin bonnet at night to stop fraying or friction
DRY YOUR HAIR THOROUGHLY - Take your time to dry between the layers of extensions to avoid teasing at the root, tangled edges and excessive strain on your root area.
BRUSH YOUR HAIR DAILY - Brushing in between the layers of extensions with a wide tooth comb or Denman brush will detangle without pulling and keep your extensions feeling fresh while working through your products and giving you some self care brushing time. What’s not to love?
*When brushing the hair - section the hair using your fingers and clip away into 3-4 horizontal sections to comb each layer freely, work from the tip of the hair up to the roots (bottom of strand to top of head) This will allow you to hold the base of your extensions near the root like a pony tail to remove excess pulling on the extension fusion point with your natural hair and is the universal way all stylists detangle hair with minimal breakage or fraying. By the time you reach the root where you can’t hold the base there should be minimal detangling left to do and low tension on the comb or brush which will keep your extensions connected for longer.
PROTECT YOUR HAIR - Apply moisturising and UV/Thermal protective products.
DON’T WASH - If you’ve received Tape Hair Extensions please don’t wash your hair for at least 48 hours after application and if you’ve had a colour service be mindful that some excess colour can secrete which may lead to some tapes slipping. If this happens please let us know immediately so we can retape free of charge within our 10 day grace period.
WASH - I know your thinking ‘Pick a side, am I washing or not?’
PAH recommends washing once a week but if you find that the hair is overly sebaceous and you have ‘Tape In Extensions’ we recommend more frequent washing so the natural oils don’t interfere with the glue and create premature slippage of the bonds and potential loss of extensions when brushing.
PRODUCT DISCLAIMERS - Be mindful for using excessive powdery products, oils that contain protein and anything that can leave a strong residue as this can lead to corrosion/slipping/fall out of your tape extensions and dreaded tangling of your tape or weft extensions. You can still use dry shampoo or powder products but just be vigilant and keep them in your natural hair at the top of the head instead :)
FACTS - Your extensions will swell after a few washes which is why you may feel the need to add more hair on the day of your appointment. Alternatively if you feel like you have too much hair after the swelling has set in please notify your stylist to remove some so we can use them in your hair in future without cutting away the density and losing the hair you paid for.
SLIPPING OR LOST SOLDIERS - If you experience any slipping of beaded or tape extensions within the first 2 washes or 10 day period please notify your stylist to have them remedied immediately.
*This can be due to colour, oil or excessive powder product residue in the hair and easily fixed.
LIMIT HUMIDITY - By using a cap if you’re having hot showers and use cold water when washing to secure your colour and strength of extensions.
